"The Amazing Koreans"

The Amazing Koreans

Dear friends:

Of the South Koreans, the late Dr. Bill Bright, founder and president of Campus Crusade for Christ, once wrote: "Thank God for what He has done in the dear people of South Korea.  It is beyond anything I have ever seen in one country....The Koreans have demonstrated an amazing hunger for God and who, by the hundreds of thousands, begin every day, long before dawn, in prayer.  They fill the churches of South Korea and give generously of their time, talent and treasure."

In a series of 1980 meetings where Dr. Bright spoke, he reports: "Dr. Kim and other officials reported that more than 1 million made salvation decisions and over 1.8 million appropriated the fullness of the Holy Spirit by faith.  In all, more than 16 million people attended all the meetings held during the five days, including five million who attended all-night prayer meetings."

Not surprisingly, like America, South Korea has been a missionary sending nation, reaching out to other countries with the gospel.

Neither was I surprised to read the following in the Arutz Sheva News from Israel today:

KOREAN CHRISTIANS VISITING ISRAEL
Some 2,500 Korean Christians will arrive in Israel next week for a special solidarity visit with Israelis.  Their trip has been planned despite objections from their own government, which recently issued a travel advisory against visits to the Middle East.  The group will take part in a march from Jerusalem to Bethlehem tomorrow night, accompanied by Tourism Minister Gideon Ezra.  They will also hold large events in the Israel Museum and the Ophel Park, adjacent to Dung Gate near the Temple Mount and Western Wall.

Arutz-7's Kobi Finkler further reports that on Aug. 8-10, a "Korean Culture Week" will be held in Jerusalem.  Booths will be displayed along the downtown streets with traditional Korean dress, arts, food, and music.  Minister Ezra said he hopes this will encourage additional Christian groups from South Korea and elsewhere to visit Israel.

Praise God for the South Koreans!

Jim
