Dear friends:

At the Olympics Marathon race today, Vanderlei Lima of Brazil led from the halfway point of the 26.2-mile race, but was attacked about 22 miles into the race by a man dressed in a red kilt, green beret and green knee-high socks who ran out onto the street and grabbed him, forcing him off to the side of the road.  Lima eventually came in third for a bronze medal, but believed the attack cost him the gold, which was won by an Italian runner.

The attacker, identified by police as Cornelius Horan, an Irish citizen, had a statement on the back of his shirt.  Reports vary as to the exact wording of the message, but NBC-TV reported that it said, "ISRAEL THE FULFILLMENT OF BIBLE PROPHECY.  THE BIBLE IS TRUE.  THE SECOND COMING IS HERE."

He reportedly pulled a similar stunt in July 2003 at a British Grand Prix event, according to the report, running out in the middle of the racetrack with cars going by him at 200 mph or more, endangering himself and the swerving drivers.

It is a paradox that while the man may be a complete nut case, his message is true!
