It seems strange to think that God would have a purpose for a world war, but indeed that has been the case, and will be the case! Prior to World War I, Palestine was under the control of the Turkish Ottoman Empire, and had been for around 400 years. Being a Muslim empire, Jewish immigration into Palestine was strictly forbidden! So, God had to get Palestine into the hands of a nation much more friendly to the Jewish people.
And so Britain beat the Turks in World War I, and henceforth Britain took control of Palestine. Around the year 1900 there were only around 10,000 Jews in Palestine, but after Britain took control that number would rise to around 600,000 in 1948 when the State of Israel was established. The Turks would never have allowed that to happen, so God put Palestine in British control!
So, what about World War II? With Hitler defeated, the concentration camps were opened and many Jewish people who survived immigrated to Palestine. But what was far more important was that the nations felt sympathy for the Jewish people in the aftermath of the absolutely horrific Holocaust. It was because of this extreme outpouring of sympathy for the Jewish people (a very rare thing through world history!), that the vast majority of nations in the United Nations voted to allow the State of Israel to be born on May 14th, 1948! Without World War II and the Holocaust this would likely never have happened!
So, God utilized two world wars for His purpose to bring the Jewish people back to their land and establish them once again as a free, independent nation for the first time since 721 BC when Assyria came down from the north and took the northern ten tribes of Israel captive!
Now........ what about World War III? Having taught end time Bible prophecy now for nearly 42 years, I will give you my opinion on this. I believe based on Scripture (too much to go into here) that what will come to be known as World War III will be the "sudden destruction" event that will be associated with the Rapture of the true Church. In the aftermath of this, although the antichrist will arise, Israel will build the Third Temple, which the antichrist will desecrate in the Middle of the 7 year Tribulation. The next 3 1/2 years (known as the Great Tribulation) will be the most terrifying time in all of human history, but will culminate with the Second Coming of Israel's long rejected Messiah, Who is Christ. So, World War III will get events rolling that will lead to the Second Coming of Christ, and finally true global peace for the next 1000 years during what is known as the Kingdom Age! During that wonderful time Christ will rule from Jerusalem over the nations. And by the way, Jesus was and has been Jewish all along through the lineage of King David!
So, in the aftermath of World War I, Jews would pour into Palestine for the first time in modern history. Then World War II and the Holocaust would bring about sufficient (and most unusual!) sympathy for the Jewish people that would allow the formation of the State of Israel! Finally World War III will set in motion events leading to the Second Coming of Israel's Messiah (Christ) and the subsequent 1000 years of peace! WOW! You see, God uses human events to fulfill his prophetic plans!

P.S. Let's look at this from a different angle. Hitler's Holocaust was the 2nd worst time in all of Jewish history, followed by the 2nd greatest time in all of Jewish history, the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948. The coming Holocaust by the antichrist during the Great Tribulation (last 3 1/2 years of the 7 year Tribulation) will be the Jewish people's worst time in all of history, followed by the greatest event in all of Jewish history------ the Second Coming of Israel's long rejected Messiah!
