A little over 30 years ago, a group of us grabbed a bunch of tracts, and headed to the queen of heaven cemetery,in Hillside, IL, outside of Chicago, to hand out the tracts, and to witness to the people gathering there.A lot of people were making pilgrimages there, because of the supposed apparitions of the queen of heaven.Apparitions of an evil fallen angel in a dead tree in a graveyard, what could be wrong with that?Yet so many people flocked there to pray, and some to seek miracles.People were taking instamatic photographs of the dead tree, with no time to touch up or fake the photographs. They showed me a few, where one looked like bright gates on one of the branches.Another looked like a stairs going up from the branch up into the sky.To say the least, it was not a little unnerving, but rather quite a bit unnerving. In front of the crucifix, (a cross with a graven image of Jesus on it, in opposition to the 2nd commandment),there was one woman leading the crowd in reciting the rosary out loud.
Note: when people lead others in the "hail mary" prayer, the leader says the first part based on Bible verses, but then the people say the second part, which is all total heresy - quite subtle. The bulk of the rosary, the circular part, is 5 sets of prayers. Each set has 1 "our father" prayer, and 10 "hail mary" prayers.Note: that's a 10:1 ratio of 10 prayers to the queen of heaven for every 1 prayer to God.(kind of direct opposition to the 1st commandment?)As soon as the rosary finished, one of us ran up in front of the crowd, and quoted from Luke 24:
"Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen"
Then another of our group, who not long afterwards, went to Ukraine as a missionary, dropped his tracts on the ground. As he bent over to pick them up, the people began to say, "He's bowing down to the crucifix!"At which point, he stood up and began preaching. He not only preached the gospel, but preached against idolatry.I considered that he had not actively memorized all those scriptures on idolatry and graven images, but that perhaps the LORD brought them all back to his remembrance as he preached. The crowd went wild, moving all over the place, and they tried to stop him.But somehow they couldn't even touch him, as long as he was preaching. There were many charismatic catholics there, who all began to rebuke him in tongues, but his preaching was louder. Then a number of people began to make different animal noises, yet he kept preaching.Just as he finished preaching, before the crowd got their hands on him, the cemetery workers showed up,they grabbed him, put him in their truck, drove him out of the cemetery, and told him to stay out.I had wondered if it wasn't of the LORD that those workers showed up at the moment he finished, to actually rescue him.
