One of the biggest problems with the idea that the USA is Babylon is this...
"I will explain to you the mystery of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns. The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come ...the seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits" (Rev 17:9)
The USA does not sit on 7 hills, nor does our capital city, something I documented in detail at http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/feb2013/jovial225-1.htm after someone tried to claim Washington DC sat on 7 hills, even though it does not. That is basically wishful thinking on some people's part who are trying to read the USA into Babylon. There aren't 7 physical hills in DC. There over 9 subdivisions with the word "hill" in it. But whatever you count or however you count it, if you are being objective, there's no conclusion you can come to other than the fact that DC does not sit on 7 hills.
Also, it says "The beast once was", and the USA did not exist when John saw this vision. Rev 17 is referencing back to Daniel's prophecy of a beast in Daniel 7, which unquestionable did not refer to the USA.
The beasts in Daniel 7 and Revelation refer to nations. "The Woman ... is the great city" (Rev 17:18) or the capital city of the beast. Wherever it is, it has to have 7 hills (such as ROME or Brussels).
Now I've mentioned other reasons why the USA is not Babylon. For example....
- Parallelism is used in Scripture to clarify that "Bablyon" is someplace in the Mid-East (http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/mar2014/jovial324-1.htm)
- It is not the most sinful nation, and several places tell us Babylon will be destroyed for her sins (Isa 13:9, Rev 18:5). I went into detail on this at http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/mar2014/jovial318-1.htm
- While some have argued the USA will be punished for apostacy, we have not , as a nation, ever embraced the faith. Many other nations have officially embraced Christianity as its official religion. I detailed this at http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/mar2014/jovial330-1.htm . So the USA is not at the extreme of most sinful, nor has its history ever been at the extreme of the most faithful either and has never officially openly embraced ANY state religion.
But this may be one of the biggest.
