"Mathman: The Book of Enoch - Jude thought it was God's Word"

Mathman,

It’s my understanding that the real Book of Enoch originates sometime around 300BC.  The early church knew of it and its included in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Jude apparently considered it authoritative, that is God’s Word as he quoted the Book of Enoch.

Compare:

Jude 1:14-15 KJV - [14] And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, [15] To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard [speeches] which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

Enoch 1: 9 And behold! He cometh with ten thousands of His holy ones
To execute judgment upon all, And to destroy all the ungodly:  And to convict all flesh
Of all the works of their ungodliness which they have ungodly committed,
And of all the hard things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him
.

It is said that the Jews rejected this book partially because it contained prophecies concerning Christ.

I used to think of the Book of Enoch just as you.  However, I changed my mind when I recognized Jude’s acceptance of it.  He would be far more qualified than any of us here at Fivedoves to make that judgment, having been a penman himself for the Holy Spirit.

YBIC,
