"To Dave M, re: cosplay"
Hhehe....no, none of my kids were 'into' Sailor moon. But there were alot of those types there!
For us, it is a way to enjoy family time, relive childhood memories,
and visit with friends we've met online who are now part of our
'Browncoat' family (Firefly/Serenity reference). I don't dress up, but
I do dress by girls, and this time around, my HUSBAND! lol. He never
ceases to amaze me!
It's always fun seeing people dressed up, usually in the easy to
recognize things, like Batman, Superman, Thor, etc...but there are even
obscure things that I have no idea what they are supposed to be!
I love when people see my kids (and my husband this year) dressed up
get excited and compliment their outfits. Even when I throw things
together at the last minute and it still looks great.
I know there are some people who think these conventions/cosplays are
wrong (trust me), we were screamed at on the sidewalk by the con by a
man telling us 'shame on you all', and telling us we were creating our
own evil by partaking in this stuff. But for me and my family, it is a
fun, creative outlet, where we can 'play dress up', and have a good
time.
We got back safe and sound, I'm so tired I can barely keep my eyes
open! We got to visit with my daughter's friends, Larry (the Soup Nazi
from Seinfeld) & Miti Kapture (Silk Stockings, Bay Watch)...plus
some other cecebs that remember us from con to con. It's fun, and since
my daughter wants to work in the entertainment/production industry,
it's a good 'networking' tool.
We had fun, but I'm glad it's over. I've dozed off typing this letter about 4 times! heh.
Blessings~
