I have no idea where those scars REALLY came from, but to me it looks like one of 3 possible answers and yes, I am being serious here:
 
 
1.) He could have been born with a condition known as craniosynostosis - where the fontanels of the skull are prematurely fused, requiring surgery to keep pressure from building in the brain and to allow for normal brain and skull growth. That would explain those scars. Here is more info for those interested. 2.) Someone hacked him with a machete.
3.) He was involved in an accident that caused severe trauma to his skull.
