Doves,Recently, there has been some discussion about the dinosaurs. I don't recall anywhere in the Bible that says the angels or Satan was given dominion over any other created being. In fact, Genesis 1:28 says that man is given dominion over 'every living thing upon the earth'. That means those creatures that existed at the time when Adam was created, the ones we see today which passed through Noah's Ark, man has dominion over. 'Every living thing of all flesh' (Gen. 6:19) was commanded upon the Ark. If dinosaurs were LIVING at that time, they would have passed through the ark, commanded to do so as per 6:19. Therefore, the mainbranch dinosaurs ceased to exist prior to Noah and consequently prior to Adam. In Genesis 1:26, God gives man dominion over the all the creatures previously described in Genesis EXCEPT the 'great dragons' of 1:21.When did God create the dinosaurs? It is stated plainly in Genesis 1:21; at the same time he created the fish and winged species.Gen 1:21 KJV - And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that [it was] good.
The adjective used is GREAT meaning very large. God doesn't just say tanniyn, which the KJV interprets as 'whale' in this instance, He creates GREAT tanniyn. Obviously, anything whale-like is already very large. However, the KJV uses the word 'whale' or Strong's 8577. The word is only interpreted as 'whale' three times in the Bible. Out of the other 25 times tanniyn is used: three times it is interpretted as 'serpent'; once as 'sea monster; and an astonishing 21 times as DRAGON. Therefore, Genesis 1:21 clearly states God created something GREATER than a simple whale-like (air breather) creature. Based on the preponderance of interpretations as DRAGON, SERPENT or SEA MONSTER (25 of 28), it would be safe to say GOD CREATED GREAT DRAGONS, or the large dinosaurs in the era of Genesis 1:21, prior to the era in Genesis 1:24 when He made mammal-type (cattle) creatures. This is also consistent with the fossil record.
In that passage, the Bible says that God CREATED (bara) which indicates 'out of nothing, something came' as opposed to God MADE (asah) which indicates 'fashioning something out of something else'. Where in the fossil record are there evolutionary steps to a t-rex or bones indicative of gradual changes leading up to a triceretops? THERE ISN'T ANY! Just like the Bible says, the 'great tanniyn' appear suddenly in the fossil record, without any prerequisite evolutionary creatures.
Also matching the fossil record with the 'great dragons' and fish are the 'winged creatures' found in Gen. 1:21. These two species have been linked in the archealogical record with similar structure and egg laying.
Dinosaurs appeared for a time and prospered according to God's will, then became extinct ALSO according to His will. Extinction of species has occurred many times in Earth's history. God's Spirit then created NEW creatures, whole species, and renewed the face of the earth as also apparent in the fossil record.
Read God's Word:
O LORD, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches. [So is] this great and wide sea, wherein [are] things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. There go the ships: [there is] that leviathan, [whom] thou hast made to play therein. These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give [them] their meat in due season. [That] thou givest them they gather: thou openest thine hand, they are filled with good. Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled: thou takest away their breath, they die, and return to their dust. Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are CREATED: and thou renewest the face of the earth. - Psa 104:24-30 KJV
