"How Long Part 1"

How Long: Part 1

For over two millennia folks have tried to decipher the date of Christ’s Return.  So far, everyone has been incorrect.  Since Christ’s ascension, there have been harder times than these days we live in.  If it is true we are in Tribulation now, those folks who survived the Great Depression and World War II would gladly trade places with us.  In the frame of human history, this generation doesn’t have it all that bad.  The great outcome of the Depression and WWII was the eventual reestablishment of the Jewish state of Israel   Those things also led to a fairly long time of peace and prosperity for much of the world.

The bones of Ezekiel 38 came together, beginning in 1948 by decree of a non-Jewish authority but culminating on June 6th, 1967 by Jewish choice and God’s providence.  On that date they stood on captured ground that hadn’t been theirs since August 2, 70 AD when the Roman army drove them from Jerusalem and leveled the Temple.

If the last generation is marked by either of those 20th century dates then time is winding down quickly to the Biblical Armageddon.

I wondered is there any place in the Bible where the question is asked and answered, ‘How long until the end?’  Of course the disciples asked the Lord and He answered; only His Father knew.  Otherwise, no one knows the day or the hour of His return, except the omniscient Godhead.  Jesus spoke those words before His New Testament was completed, which now reveals more clues.  It also could be said that when He spoke ‘no man knows the day or the hour’ He could have been referring to those living during that time.  However, the most likely meaning is that we could know generally the time, possibly even the year or the month; just not the day and the hour.

The other instance of the question ‘how long’ being asked and answered occurs in the Book of Daniel.  One of the most prolific prophets of the Old Testament had a vision, in which one of the characters asks the central character:  And [one] said to the man clothed in linen, which [was] upon the waters of the river, “How long [shall it be to] the end of these wonders?” - Dan 12:6 KJV.   The answer comes in the very next verse: “[it shall be] for a time, times and a half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all of these things shall be finished.” – Dan 12:7 KJV.

This question asked and answered is not completely understood by Daniel, except that the time appointed was long.  He’s told those words are ‘closed up and sealed till the time of the end’ (12:9), a time when many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall be increased (12:5).  I contend that we are living in the time when the seal on this mystery is broken and revealed.  Daniel 12:5 describes the internet to a tee, a vehicle by which many have access to the entire world of knowledge.  Knowledge is the key to understanding Daniel’s vision, along with the atoning blood of Jesus Christ.  Daniel 12:10 declares that many shall be purified, made white and tried, which is only possible after the Cross.

Daniel 12:10 also describes the approach by which the understanding comes.  Those who are wicked or act in an unethical manner shall not understand.  The wise and judicious thinker shall come to understand.  Paul describes ‘proving ALL things’ which is a scientific approach to problem solving.  Being unbiased about your favorite Rapture date isn’t easy. We should hold fast to that which is GOOD and discard those things that do not stand testing.

To reckon the time of the end, it would be first necessary to know the date of the beginning; that is when the specific question was asked and answered.  Daniel gives the precise date of the vision in 10:1-4, which is the start date:  3rd year of King Cyrus of Persia, 24th day of the 1st month.

Secondly, it would be necessary to understand the time-scale referred to as the purposely ambiguous ‘time, times and a half’ in the vision.  Strong’s H4150 is used here for ‘time’.  The very first instance of H4150 is in Genesis 1:14 referring to the purpose of the sun, moon and stars which is for SEASONS (H4150), days and years.  So literally, the answer in the vision is a ‘season, seasons and a half’.  To decipher Daniel’s use of H4150 (mow’-ed) it must be established which season or seasons is being referred to.  Obviously, it is not 3.5 summer seasons, winters, etc.  The timeframe is also much longer than 1260 years.  However, the timeframe does have something to do with the sun, moon and stars.  Daniel establishes in 12:3 that the stars (H3556) are righteous or justified as he uses them metaphorically of the wise.  Remember, Daniel was the CHIEF of the Babylonian Astronomers, THEE group that instituted observational and mathematical astronomy.

Thirdly, it would be important to understand the imagery-rich vision in 10 and 12 as well as the hidden clues and mysterious numbers of the entire Book of Daniel.

Over the time remaining, I will be posting on this subject as I am able.  If you had the patience to read through this entire post, I look forward to hearing your input and critique as I try to establish: the start date; the various meanings of Daniel’s ‘times’; and the interpretation of Daniel’s Vision.  Along the way, I believe you will discover there is some remarkable information gleaned from Daniel that only the Author of the Bible, Creator of the Universe and Mathematics could know at the time Daniel wrote the words.

Until the next time, ponder this ‘coincidence’.

If an average synodic MONTH = 29.530588853 days: then one Lunar Year is 354.367066236 days; and one Lunar Year PLUS the Leap Month (Hebrew Leap Year-calendar basis) or 13 months is 383.897655089 days; then 1 Regular Lunar Year PLUS 1 Lunar Leap year is 738.264721325 days total:

Now multiply by these various prophetic numbers:

            1290 + 1335 = 2625    2625 x 354.367066236 = 930,213.5488695 days = 2,546.840357 years    (3.5 x 750 = 2625)

            1260                            1260 x 738.264721325 = 930,213.5488695 days = 2,546.840357 years     (3.5 x 360 = 1260)

(Birth Pangs) = Human gestation x 1000 = 29.530588853 days (month) x 9 x 1000 = 265,775.299677 days.  If human gestational nine-month period x 1000 = 265,775.299677 days is a ‘TIME’, then a ‘time, times and a half’ would be 3.5 x 265,775.299677 days = 930,213.5488695 days = 2,546.840357 years.

Here we have 3 precisely the same values derived (3.5 x) from three different prophetic terms.  Is it just coincidence?
