"Should we fear God?"

Dear Doves

Many Christians have a problem with the idea of Fearing God. Why
should we fear God, if God is love? Let me try to nail down why the
fear of God is the beginning of wisdom!

Let's have a look at some scriptures first:

Proverbs 1:7 (King James Version) "The fear of the LORD is the
beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

Proverbs 9:10 (King James Version) "The fear of the LORD is the
beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."

Proverbs 15:33 (King James Version): "The fear of the LORD is the
instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility."

Isaiah 11:2-3 (King James Version): "And the spirit of the LORD shall
rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of
counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the
LORD; And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the
LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither
reprove after the hearing of his ears:"

Psalm 130:3-4 (King James Version): "If thou, LORD, shouldest mark
iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with
thee, that thou mayest be feared."

Scriptures about godly fear in the New Testament: Matthew 10:28b, Luke
1:50, Luke 12:5, Acts 10:2, Romans 11:20, Colossians 3:22, 1 Timothy
5:20, Hebrews 4:1, Hebrews 10:27, Hebrews 10:31, 1 Peter 2:17

With so many clear scriptures about this topic, there is no doubt that
we should fear God (the father).

The reason for that is simple: God is completely holy in nature and we
are sinful (unholy!) in nature! None of us can stand before God! The
penalty for sin is death (in spirit, soul and body) and we ALL have
sinned and deserve it. The fear of God helps us to realize what God is
and what we are. God is absolutely righteous and just and how could he
NOT condemn us sinners? So we have all reason to fear God! Realizing
this is indeed the beginning of wisdom.
The good news is that God still loves us from the bottom of his heart
and does not want to condemn us. But because he IS righteous and just
he simply has to. The genius solution to that problem is Jesus, the
Son of God! Jesus was 100% obedient to God (his father), and died as
sinless Lamb, as requested by God (the father) in the law of Moses.
Jesus truly fulfilled the law in action and also in perfect timing
according to Gods commanded holy feasts! God (the father) accepted
this perfect sacrifice as the ultimate sacrifice that washes away ALL
our sins once and forever.

Romans 5:8 (New International Version, ©2011): "But God demonstrates
his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died
for us."

John 3:16-17 (King James Version): "For God so loved the world, that
he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should
not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into
the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might
be saved."

So, in essence:
Fear God -> realize that you are a sinner -> realize the penalty of
sin -> realize that Jesus paid the penalty of sin on behalf of you ->
accept Jesus as your personal saviour!

The Fear of God results in love for Jesus, hence it truly IS the
beginning of wisdom. To fear God helps you to stay away from sin and
to realize what Jesus did for you on a daily base.

Watch & pray!
