To Taylor,
RE: http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/apr2009/taylor413.htm
You copied a whole page from my web site without giving a reference and only added a paragraph of your own at the bottom. I doubt you had any bad motives in this but it is a poor practice that frequently causes problems. I was going to let it go but now Pineman has started a discussion so I must intervene. This isn't about getting credit, but that an author must keep control and take responsibility for what they write - and in this case I need to take responsibility for an error!
To Pineman and all Doves,
You may address further comments to 'Tom Bigbee' regarding this thread. Indeed, I did have an error. I had stated incorrectly that Ascension Day was on a Tuesday, and also had it listed on my calendar page the same as Tuesday, May 19th. This was done because I followed the traditional Jewish days of omer which count from Passover instead of counting forty days from Firstfruits which doesn't make any sense at all. Acts 1:3 clearly states that Jesus was with them for forty days and He was resurrected on Firstfruits. I have corrected these pages.
I had previously found several sites, including Marilyn Agee's, that stated that there were 2300 days between Pentecost (Shavuot), May 29th, 2009 and Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah), September 14, 2015. If this day of Pentecost is correct then it is still true - however, I have now found reason to doubt this date. All the Jewish calendars pin Pentecost to May 29th but this appears to be based on a Pharisee tradition that the 50 day count starts the day after Passover.
Reading from Leviticus 23:15-16...
'And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed. Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to the Lord.
At the time when God gave us the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, the Sadducees had control of the Temple and the calendar. They counted from Firstfruits as it seems the Torah is mandating. If so then the 2300 days between the above dates is two days off and invalidates the only place I have ever seen where the 2300 days can be pinned to the calendar.
Also note that the traditional day of Pentecost as observed by Christians is pinned by counting 7 weeks from Easter but about 20% of the time Easter does not coincide with Firstfruits so this is also an incorrect method.
I am in the process of consulting several authorities who know Hebrew and the traditions surrounding this issue. If I can get an answer that makes sense, I will pass it on to you all.
Tom
