Hi Ya'll,

http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/apr2009/peggym429-2.htm

It was very interesting to see this post concerning the fig tree.  A while back I was reading Luke in chapter 19 where you can find the story of Zacchaeus (Pure) climbing the Sycomore tree to see Jesus.  I came across this commentary:

The sycamore tree, climbed by Zacchaeus, was considered "unclean" because it bore a fruit that was fed to pigs[5]. In the culture of the time it was humiliating for Zacchaeus to climb that tree. To see Jesus, Zacchaeus' pride had to be crucified. In Romans, Paul wrote "knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin." Romans 6:6"

Then in Romans 8 we read:"

14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

15For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

16The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

17And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified together.

In these verses I see another correlation with the fig tree.  Zacchaeus was in the sycomore tree (the lesser fig tree) when Jesus told him to come down:
Luke 19:5
And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, ZACCHAEUS, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

What a wonderful parallel we have here showing our grafting from the lesser fig tree to The Fig Tree that Peggy you talked about.   We, gentiles, are co-heir as adopted children of God crucified with him and made a better fruit because of Him.  I think summer is near!

God bless you all,
Barbara
