A few days ago, I wrote a post to Samson thanking him for his encouraging
posts and
in that post, I commented about not hearing some of the magnificent old
hyms
we sang and how we just never hear them anymore, at least I hadn't.
I talked with my daughter about these hyms, some of which she had never
heard.
The one I was especially thinking about was one was named Never
Alone.
I wrote a few words of the chorus in that post.
Two days later, a large Baptist church was having a huge yard sale and
my
daughter stopped by to look around. She happened to see an old hymnal
there
by itself on a table and it looked a little ragged, but thinking I might
want it anyway,
she got it for me.
When she brought that book home, I just opened it where it seemed to fall
open
and there on page 183 was the song NEVER ALONE . The writer was
Anonymous
and person who arranged the song was B.B. McKinney.
I was blessed beyond belief because I knew for a fact that the Holy Spirit
had
gotten this old hymnal to me and this particular was the first song I saw
in this book.
This may seem a little thing for Spirit to do, but the thing is that He did
it just
because He loves me and He knew the special meaning of the song to me as
a
child. I consider this one of the greatest blessings as it is so personal
and so sweet
of Him to do, such a love gift.
So, I want to copy at least a verse of it in thanksgiving to Him and to
that Anonymous
composer of this song. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this Anonymous was
the
Spirit . He is always so full of surprises and blessings that it would be
most difficult
to imagine just what He will do next.
Nev er Alone
I've seen the lightning flashing,
And heard the thunder roll,
I've felt sin's breakers dashing,
Trying to conquer my soul;
I've heard the voice of Jesus,
Telling me still to fight on,
He promised never to leave me
Never to leave me alone.
The world's fierce winds are blowing
Temptations are sharp and keen'
I feel a peace in knowing
My Savior sands between
He stands to sheild me from danger,
When earthly friends are gone,
He promised never to leave me
Never to leave me alone.
When in afflictions valley,
I'm treading the road of care,
My Savior helps me to carry
My cross when heavy to bear
My feet entangled with briars
Ready to cast me down
My Savior whispered His promise
Never to leave me alone.
Chorus...repetitions of
No, never alone, no never alone
He promised never to leave me
Never to leave me alone.
To Peggy, this is the testimony I mentioned in my post to you.
Would like to add that we sat here singing(me off key) so many of these old
songs
that I had completely forgotten about. So many just show simple childlike
trust
in the promises of God and are such a blessing along with memories of my
dad
and neighbors singing it to the top of their voices, even tho the neighbors
lived
what would now be about a half a block or more away. The Holy Spirit knows
how
to please us, how to get things done and where this old hymnal was and he
even
brought it to me!!!!!!
