Greetings Doves,In reply to Michele Kennedy's post from yesterday I'd like to add just a little more info:Most of us read about this latest Hudna from Hamas, and the possible 10 year time frame involved. It should've raised eyebrows because any Agreement with a time frame can be easily changed to say "7" instead of the previous number given. The thing is though, this offer by Hamas is NOT the first time an Agreement mentioned a time frame. The Original OSLO Accords did also. They mentioned a FIVE YEAR PERIOD where, basically, after certain things were implemented, the time period would be like a trial period to see if the PA (and Israel) could live up to their end of the deal. If so, then a permanent agreement would be entered into. I always wondered (years ago) why the AC signed/strengthened so short an agreement with the many. Why not an agreement like the ones Joel mentioned with Egypt and Jordan? A Five year or SEVEN year Agreement makes sense IF the purpose is a trial period type of thing.Btw, this FIVE YEAR AGREEMENT actually resurfaced just the other day in the news. Donna Danna posted about it here:I'll quote part of the info from those news articles:"According to Palestinian sources, the two sides are to reach a General AGREEMENT of Principles by the end of the year that would not include reference to the questions of Jerusalem or the Palestinian refugees. The AGREEMENT would be a TEMPORARY ONE - Valid for FIVE YEARS - during which the PA would be granted some municipal sovereignty in the Capital and would be allowed to provide various services to the Palestinian residents of the City."Now think about it folks. What if the opening sentence of the previous paragraph had said the following:"The AGREEMENT would be a TEMPORARY ONE - Valid for SEVEN YEARS - during which the PA would be granted some municipal sovereignty in the Capital..."None of these leaked "Peace & Safety" Agreements are the final deal yet, but they seem to be part of the birth pangs of it. Therefore, whenever we hear about a peace deal with a time limit hooked onto it we should pay close attention.MARANATHA DEAR DOVES! :-)Renee C.
