What I am wrinting here is my opinion and understanding on the subject.

The subject of  ( how Jesus looked like after he resurected ), is mentioned in JN 20 : 14

...Mary did not know it was Jesus... V. 15  She thought He was the gardener.

Luke 24 : 13- 34  On the road to Emmaus, two disciples didn't know Jesus while walking with Him. Luke 24 : 36 -43  Jesus showed himself to his disciples but they were afraid thinking it was a ghost. Jesus showed them the  MARKS in his hands  an feet. He said He had

FLESH  and  BONES .( spirits have no flesh & bones ). Then... He ate food.

JN 20 : 24 - 29   Thomas had to put his fingers in the PRINT OF THE NAILS  &  SIDE

then... only then... he would believe.

 

Now you mentioned  JN   21  ... then again the disciples didn't know it was Jesus.

 

I want to outline something in  Isaiah 52 : 14   speaking of Jesus '  FACE.  

'' His visage was marred more than any man, and his FORM more than the sons of men.''

Imagine, his face marked in blood caused by the blows  He received , beaten with sticks and fists  etc...

He didn't look like  '' sons of men ''.   BUT...No bones were broken and    now :  ((( imagine  the flesh.)))

Swolen eyes, cracked and swolen lips  in blood ...  etc...

 

Now after his resurection , the wounds in his HANDS  and  FEET  and  SIDE  were still there and visible and touchable :  the  SCARS were still there to see . Jesus had also the  OTHER  SCARS   in his FLESH   that He spoke about in LUKE 24 : 39 .( flesh ).

 

That would explain why  the disiples did not recognized Jesus ; and that's besides having walked with him for over three years. They surely knew what He looked like  !

 The scars in his hands , feet , side  and   F A C E    were there and  the only way to make sure HE was JESUS , it was by the way He would talk to them.

Read   LUKE 24 : 30 - 31   When He blessed the bread ,  then  their eyes openned  ... but Jesus vanished.

Jesus must have had a particular way of praying and talking to His FATHER  and our FATHER too.
