That was indeed an awesome testimony! It sort of reminds me of a man I used to go to church with in the 1980’s. His name was Stan, and he was approximately mid-40’s, a precious Jewish man who had been a long time pilot with Continental Airlines. He had contracted asbestos cancer as a result, and when he began visiting Holy Spirit Lutheran where my ex and I were attending church. I was a smoker at the time, as was Stan, and a bunch of us used to stand outside after services and smoke and visit. I became very close to Stan, and found out from our conversations with him that the doctors didn’t give him much time, and that he was a relative new Christian (about 6 months), and was petrified of the unknown factors of death. I told him about how beautiful Heaven would be, and found a book for him that had all the verses found in the Bible on Heaven, and gave it to him as a present. He loved it, and said that it made a HUGE difference in his feelings on dying. But, he said, since he was such a new Christian, he was embarrassed that he hadn’t been able to do much for the Lord. I asked him, “What about the thief on the cross? How much “newer” can you be than that? And he didn’t have another opportunity to serve the Lord after that day? But the Lord told him that he would be with Him in Paradise.” I told him to keep serving the Lord to the best of his ability, that was all the Lord asked of him. And to ask the Lord to use him as He saw fit. Then when he arrived in eternity, he could be proud. By the time Stan passed away about 6 months later, he was totally unafraid. In fact he told his wife and two daughters that the instant his spirit departed his body, to look upward and wave goodbye to him! How beautiful is that? I cried for months after he left, but I felt good knowing I had found the book for him and been able to share God’s love with him during the time we knew each other.
