I, too, am a little bothered about the last minute "push" to be "prepared"!  The way to be prepared is to be converted and those who aren't converted need to be.  Those who are converted can do no more to save themselves than to believe on the Lord, which they have!
My TAKE on the virgins is that 5 are converted and are thus in relationship with the Lord and the other 5 are professing to be christians but are not really converted..thus no intimacy with God.
I sense some saved by works philosophy here....rather than...works will follow.
