"Encounter with an atheist scientist"

Dear friends:

A striking part of Ben Stein’s new movie/documentary “Expelled” is when Ben was in a very frank discussion with one of the leading atheists/scientists and Darwin proponents (I can't remember his name).

So the public would know the depth of evil and unbelief we are dealing with, Ben let him rant on about God, whom he shockingly insulted and berated with the most vile words I have ever heard -- vile words against his own Creator, whom he actually called evil and whom he rejected.  It was unbelievable.  I could sense the fires below being stoked and made hotter, getting ready for his soon arrival.

Finally, Ben cleverly asked, “After you die, what will you say to Him if you meet Him?”

With a strange new meekness and countenance, the scientist replied, “I will ask Him why He hid himself from us.”

Ka-ching!  That got my brain to churning.  What an incredible statement.  Surely, because of sin there is a chasm, or veil, between sinful man and the holy God, which can only be bridged by the cross.  However, God has not hidden Himself from us!  Far from it.  In fact:
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son (Hebrews 1:1-2, NKJV).
Also:
What may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools (Romans 1:19-22).
That one phrase says it all: “They are without excuse.”

The scientist's simple problem was unbelief, which I recently wrote about as "America's greatest sin."  Unbelief is an act of the will.  See my article at http://www.injesus.com/index.php?module=message&task=view&MID=VB007ED7&GroupID=2A004N9G

I looked upon that scientist with great pity, with the eyes of Christ.  I remembered that Christ died for that scientist and all the other arrogant, unbelieving ones. He does not want them to perish, but to turn from unbelief to faith (repent).  They are presently blinded, their hearts darkened, and they are on their way to hell.

May God have mercy on their souls.  Let us pray for a spiritual awakening in academia.
