Just thinking out loud....

I had rather be expectant about the Lord's return and disappointed, than not expectant and surprised.

I had rather be watchful about the Lord's return and disappointed, than not watchful and surprised.

I had rather be found as an obedient watchman, than He catch me by surprise as a thief in the night.

An expected day will come when we will not disappointed, but we will see our Lord face to face. "We know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure" (1 John 3:2-3).

"Abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming" (1 John 2:28).

So may we be found expectant, watchful, obedient, and abiding.
