Paul N.F. …….
You hit the nail on the head with your post yesterday. I have a girl at my school who was telling me about her new church that she found. It is absolutely her kind of church because the Pastor says as long as you lead a good life and are kind to others, you will make it to heaven. You don’t have to give up a lot of the things you like to do. Just be mindful of how you do them. In other words……go ahead and curse and swear, just as long as it’s not in front of anyone you may offend. Go ahead and drink lively and party down with your friends on Saturday night, just as long as you make it to church on Sunday morning. We all know that’s a bunch of poo-poo. You know who would love to go to a church like this? I do. The people who don’t want to work at being a Christian would love a church like this. Sorry folks. Christians aren’t born with a silver spoon in their mouths. They don’t automatically inherit Daddy and Mommy’s Christian bank account and never have to work at being a Christian ever again. Being a Christian is a lot of work because we live in a world full of horrible sin and we are supposed to be separate from the world. Will we sin? Of course. We were born sinners so we will always be susceptible to sin. Do we have to live in sin? OF COURSE NOT! You can do what you can to separate from sin by putting Christ in the driver’s seat and dumping worldly pleasures on the side of the road to catch a ride in some other sin wagon. It’s not easy. Like I said, being a “working Christian” is tough, but certainly worth it in the long run.
2 Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
Romans 2:12 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
