I think you ask a very good question and your predicament is one that many of us probably have also pondered. I myself included - although I began to deal with this question many years ago while attending the "Preparedness Expo" which was back in the mid 90's and it was even then really sounding the alarm that these things were coming and that it was time to flee to the mountains and prepare. Well I prayed about it then and asked God if that was what He wanted me to do and He told me to read Psalm 11 and there I would find His answer for me and boy did I ever. It is still my answer, thank God, I am so confident that I will not be here for any of the bad to come. My treasure is laid up in heaven and that is where my heart is also, so that is where I have stored my goods, not here. (Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you - Take NO thought of what you shall eat etc...) Rather than explain it again, I have found the link to a post I did back in January of this year that explains about this and hopefully answers your question at least from my perspective.
