1 Cor 10:31 (16 Apr 2008)
"what does "it is finished" really mean?"

Jesus said that if he be lifted up from the earth He will draw ALL men unto Him  (Joh 12:32)

and we are told that He became the propitiation for our sins: and not just ours, but also for the

sins of the whole world. (1Jn 2:2) so if we have to use the logic conclusion of their argument

then the "finished" must apply to everyone since He said it was done for all!!

Now at this point we KNOW that that isn’t the case cause again Jesus said that "few" find the

way (Mat 7:14 ), and He is God, so He knows.

So the 'it is finished" must mean something other than "you don't need to do anything".

And the Bible tells us what it is that was finished:

1)The defeat of Satan;
*  Joh 12:31  Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
*  Col 2:14   Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary

to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
  Col 2:15  And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing

over them in it.
* Heb 2:14   Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself

likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of

death, that is, the devil;

2) Breaking down the middle wall partition between the Jew & Gentile:
*  Eph 2:14  For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of

partition between us;
*  Eph 3:6  That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his

promise in Christ by the gospel:

3)A way for personal access to God;
*  Eph 2:16  And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain

the enmity thereby:
   Eph 2:17  And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.
   Eph 2:18  For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

*  Heb 10:19  Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
   Heb 10:20  By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to

say, his flesh;

4) Cancelation of sins’ POWER;

*  Rom 6:6  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be

destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
*  Rom 8:2   For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law

of sin and death.
*  1Co 15:56   The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
   1Co 15:57   But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

5) Full PRICE of salvation  for ALL who will turn to Him:

*  2 Co 5:14  For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died

for all, then were all dead:
   2 Co 5:15  And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto

themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
   2 Co 5:19   To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing

their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

This is by no means an exhaustive list but what it shows is that Jesus came to do a job that would

offer EACH and every one  victory over sin, full salvation, and reconciliation with God, and THAT

is what was “finished on the cross”.

He did ALL that needed to be done...we no longer in OUR strength have to fight against sin, or

satan's power.....cause all that  is "Finished".  But we still have to COME (repenting, believing,

surrendering) into the Vine ...and then  "STAY"  (continue ) in the Vine.

The works/fruits that result are not from us, but from the Vine's roots that sustain us.

If they are not there, we are no longer in the Vine!!

The OSAS argument actually turns on them when we look at these Scriptures; cause if you

don't have to do "anything" & can carry on living in sin and rebellion after "believing"  then

Jesus wasn't "finished"  with what He came to do; cause sin still holds power over you and

satan still rules your life and sin still separates you from fellowship with God, and you haven’t

become a new creature!!!

Titus 2
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
The rapture is a blessed hope to the Christian. Watching for and expecting the rapture is a blessed hope that encourages a person to stay close to the Lord. A person watching daily for the rapture will go on with life but be constantly looking for the return of the Lord each day. This blessed hope also has a purifying effect. A person will not get caught up in worldliness or wrong things if he thinks His Lord could come back at any moment. ~ Alan Yusko
