I heartily agree.  I was privey to a couple of stories that Snopes wrote about as stating them to be a hoax, when I knew personally those that were involved.  I, wrote back to my friend who, at that time stated that Snopes.com says was a hoax.  I was able to correct my friend and warned her that even Snopes is fallible and not always trustworthy.
 
I love that verse in Scripture that the Holy Spirit will lead you and guide you into all truth and I also believe will provide discernment when needed about "stories" when sought.
