"Emmaus"

Hello, Friends!

Blessings to you all in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ who is the Resurrection and Life.

The other day I was reading Luke 24:13-35 and following.  I hope you also may be encouraged in you study of the WORD.

If anyone has thoughts or had posted previously on this passage please reply and share.

Thoughts to consider:

  1. “Two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.”
    1. “Two” could represent Jews and Gentiles. Note one is mentioned by name: Cleopas- this name has meaning such as to praise, acclaim, and also glory and father
    2. “same day”  This is the same day the LORD rose from the grave on the morning of the THIRD day. (Ps. 90:4  For a 1,000 years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.)
    3.  “threescore furlongs.”  Is 7 miles.  Could this point to a great significance for Christians in 2007?
  1. The two walked and communed together about Jesus and He drew near them and engaged them in dialogue to strengthen their understanding though they did not perceive that He was Jesus (v.15-28).
  2. They asked Jesus to abide with them for the day was “far spent” (v.29).  (Today is the day of salvation. 2 Chron. 6:2)
  3. He went in to tarry with them, and gave communion to them. (v.29-30). (I believe this symbolizes unity and peace with all Jews and Gentiles who love the LORD.)
  4. “And their eyes were opened, and they knew Him; and He vanished out of their sight. (v.31)
  5.  They said to each other, “Did not our heart burn within us, as He talked with us by the way, and while He opened to us the Scriptures?”  (v. 32) (Wise virgins have their lamps filled with plenty of oil- even to burn brightly for the Bridegroom)
  6. And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, saying the Lord is risen indeed.
  1. The next passage is where Jesus appears to His disciples behind locked doors where they could actually touch him and be with him for a time.  (This could be like the time when we are with the LORD while the tribulation occurs on earth.  That we would be shut safely in His chambers for a time.  (See an amazing verse in Isaiah 26:20)

If anyone can find the meaning of “Emmaus” that would be interesting.

Our God is Holy and Omnipotent, yet in love and mercy He reveals enough of His thoughts, heart, and plan to give us faith, hope, and joy in Him.

To the Only Wise God, who lives forever!

May the LORD of righteousness, hope, and peace be with you all…
