"Feeling "out of it""

I will confess to a similar feeling expressed by many Doves following Douglas Martin's "A Feeling of "I do not care"  post. Basically, just like all the other posters, I'm also ready to get out of here because this world stinks.  My recurring "outrage" over that fact has run its course way too many times, I'm now too exhausted to be "outraged" any longer. The news has wiped me out, and discussing it with anybody is frustrating because it seems no body really knows what is going on, and nobody seems to care.

I'm amazed to read so many things on the internet exposing historical lies that I was raised to believe. Of course, it should be be no real surprise for a Bible believer to discover that the world is filled with unholy and evil people, but we are always tempted to believe that certain people are "good" - but nobody is good. Democracy is basically a system where two people vote to steal the money of the third person, and everybody votes to outlaw the commandments of God so they can all do whatever they want to do. This is the best system man can invent, and it's just as evil as any other system. The internet has been a great eye-opening, but as Solomon said in Ecclesiastes, with much learning comes much sorrow.

The disappointments seeing the world system spiral down is bad enough, but seeing apostasy rot away the Christian Church has really gotten me down. Modern Christianity: It's all about images, Rock-music, "how to cope", entertainment, polluted Bible versions, the "alluring" worship team singers, the overhead projector, the lisping pastor, the expensive Hawaiian shirts, the electric guitar, the tithe for the new building, the pastor's new Harley Davidson, the lights dimmed, the financial networking, religious baubles, "combating social injustice", interactive doctrine-avoiding dynamic young-couples relating caring sharing purposeful accepting committed singles-ministry unity celebrating no-condemning uncontroversial self-discovering image-conscience "give the people what the want" seeker-friendly unchurched-reaching lukewarm LAODICIAN puke-churches. Vomit. That's what Jesus says about it in Revelation 3. And EVERY church today seems to be just like this, and they are all competing with one another to be MORE like this every week. Complain about any of this and you're labelled a grouchy "church splitter" and "legalistic" "unloving" "troublemaker" etc.

So what should we do? I think we should keep reading the word, keep doing what God has called us to do, keep praying, hold fast to our faith, and to not give up. We need to take a gulp of air and keep pushing forward in hope. I think we should run with patience all the way to the finish line without stopping or slowing down or giving up. I think we should pace ourselves lest we "burn out" early or collapse with disappointment if Christ delays his coming past this year. But then this will be our last chance to ever suffer for the Lord, or ever bear reproach for the gospel, or ever endure persecution for Christ's sake. This is it. If the rapture happens tomorrow then all the work of this life will have ended and I won't have any opportunity to re-do this life or partake of the cross of Christ any longer. Let's see our life waiting for the Lord's return as a great opportunity to forsake the world like Moses who forsook Egypt's palaces and suffering with the Children of God. Let's make lists of things we would still like to do for the Lord, and work to check them off. Let's see if there are more things to do and try to do them by God's grace. In other words, the feeling of being too tired and listless to do anything is to be expected at the end of a long day in the harvest field, but all we have to do is hold out for a little while longer. Maybe only a few more days. Let's know God's joy while we wait. Let's all think about that joy - we are forgiven in Jesus Christ and have a sure salvation. We cannot lose it. We are saved because he loved us and forgave us our sins and gave us new life eternally. Nothing going on in the world surprises God. He saved us for this very purpose, that we would escape the world and be with him. We are fools in the eyes of the world. We are completely incompatible with this world. The world hates us. We are not of this world. We CANNOT enjoy this world. Why be sad about that? We cannot enjoy it because we have a home in Heaven, the New Jerusalem, where we will reside forever with God - that city is the mother of us all and our true home. Be encouraged everyone, do your best, keep it up. Keep going. Christ will return exactly on time.
