Paul N.F. posted a piece called "FINAL INSPECTION" on April 12, 2007. It is a very good piece on a Marine's judgment before God.
When I first read it my thought was that "God will not be that easy on him, or anybody else".
Then I remembered an observation I once made concerning Jesus and the military based on the four Gospels. That is...Jesus never, ever condemned or rebuked or criticized a soldier in the New Testament. The closest He may have come was when he forgave the soldiers who crucified Him. "Father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing" (Luke 23:34). Now remember these were not "His boys," the Israeli Defense Force, the soldiers He came into contact with were the enemy, the Roman occupying force.
You see, Jesus is a soldier, He is Captain of the Host, He knows all about obedience, duty, honor, courage, self-sacrifice. A righteous soldier is most Christ like, everything they do is done for someone else's benefit, every soldier who dies, dies for someone else's benefit.
Several years ago the Lord put onto my heart to pray for the military, not just my military (USA) but for those soldiers and sailors in every nations military, even those who may be our enemy. So one morning every week I pray for the military, for the salvation of the individuals in the armies of specific nations.
There is an excellent article entitled
"Officers, soldiers and God" at http://answering-islam.org/Authors/Arlandson/pacifism3.htm
