"God's "fifth column""
Dear friends:
This morning while at the computer and looking out the window, I saw a very
obese man, probably in his 50s, walking rapidly down the street and sweating,
no doubt trying to lose weight and spare his health.
I felt a burden to pray for him, that God would bless him both physically and
spiritually.
Here are two people who have never met and are total strangers but who are now
forever connected in heaven. I may be the only person who has ever prayed
for this man. I often am burdened to pray for strangers such as this I
see at the mall and elsewhere. Who knows how God might use such prayers?
We would probably be surprised.
Suddenly I realized that I am a part of God's "fifth column" on planet
earth, as are others like me.
According to Wikipedia, a "fifth column" is a group of people which
clandestinely undermines a larger group to which it is expected to be loyal,
such as a nation. The term is also used in reference to a population who
are assumed to have loyalties to countries other than the one in which they
reside. Use of the term began in 1936 and was used throughout WW2.
The "larger group" to which I am expected to be loyal is Satan's kingdom
on earth and its many manifestations, expectations, and demands.
Yes, my loyalty is to a country other than the one in which I reside.
I am part of "a better country—a heavenly one." Therefore God
is not ashamed to be called my God, for He has prepared a city for me (Hebrews
11:16, NIV). My "citizenship is in heaven" (Philippians
3:20).
I am a part of God's "fifth column" in this worldly kingdom where
Satan is god. Openly, by my actions, and clandestinely, by my prayers,
I continually undermine his dark kingdom, and I am persuaded that ultimately
it is God's will that will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
You are also among God's "fifth column" to help bring that about.
