"Couple more notes on brides at the well"

Couple more notes on brides at the well

Greetings doves,

First, there is yet another bride found at a well, and that is in Genesis 29, when Jacob discovered his future bride, Rachel, when she brought her father’s sheep to water them there.  Wow, that makes how many ?

And further, in looking at the two stories of Eliezer finding Rebekah at the well, and our Lord going to the well and finding the Samaritan woman at the well, there are some
marvelous similarities,,,,to me like finding golden threads woven into the great tapestry of the Word of God.

First, Eliezer requested that Rebekah give him a drink of water

Gen 24:17 And the servant ran to meet her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of thy pitcher.

and our Lord does the same in John 4, for He fulfills so many of the types and parables in the Old Testament

John 4:7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

Second, Eliezer tells Rebekah’s family that he doesn’t want to eat, until he knows whether his errand might be accomplished; that is, he wished to complete his master’s desires:

Gen 24:33 And there was set meat before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told mine errand.

and our Lord does the same thing !   He doesn’t want to eat, until He knows that He has done the will of the Father

John 4:31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.
32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.
33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

Third, Eliezer tells Rebekah about Abraham’s riches,
just as Christ told the Samaritan about the living water which would be given to those who worship in Spirit and truth.

Fourth, Eliezer identifies himself:

Gen 24:34 And he said, I am Abraham's servant.

as also our Lord identified Himself

John 4:26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

With love to all of you doves,,,,your sister     Arlene
