I looked up the meaning of Emmaus, and it means warm baths,,,a place of healing...
Isn't it so?  We will meet our Lord and commune with Him at a place of healing.  I also wonder if when the Lord was snatched away from them, it represented the rapture, and as you say, afterward, the door was locked, with Him and His deciples alone behind the locked door.  For they returned to Jerusalem (New Jerusalem).  And when He broke bread, they saw Him like we will... "as He is, so will we be...".....
 
All fits in also with the second Passover...........may it be !
