"Satan's Throne"

Satan's Throne

Yesterday, I received my new issue of Biblical Archaeology Review, May/June
2006, vol.32, no.3 and was surprised to see "Satan's Throne" on the cover. I
had heard of this artifact before as described in Revelation 2:12-13, but was
anxious to see what if anything new was discussed. To be honest, I was caught
completely off guard and was pleasantly surprised at the findings, especially
considering the fact that the article was written by a distinguished Professor
of New Testament Criticism at Yale Divinity School.
For many years now, I have been of the opinion that the sons of God mentioned
in Genesis 6 are fallen angels who cavorted with the daughters of men and
created the nephilim giants. They were banished to the eternal bonds under
darkness (Jude 6 and 2Peter 2:9) awaiting Judgment.
Prof. Adela Yarro Collins of Yale Divinity School describes the great altar of
Pergammon which was carried to the Berlin State Museum in the latter part of
the 19th century as the Throne of Satan mentioned in Revelation 2:12-13. What
fascinated me was her description with pictures of the friezes that surrounded
the throne depicting the mythical battles between the Greek Gods and the
giants, the race descended of Earth and Heaven. She then quotes 1Cor.10:20 to
show that the sacrifices at the Throne of Satan were to demons.
What really fascinated me was when next she quoted Deut.32:8 which states that
"when the Most High gave the nations their inheritance, when He separated the
sons of man, He set the boundaries of the peoples according to the number of
the sons of Israel." Prof.Collins then went on to say that a fragment from the
Dead Sea Scrolls as well as the Septuagint state this as as ending "sons of
God'! She goes on that the 2nd century Christian Father, Justin Martyr,
described these as messengers of God or angels. Martyr went on to describe
these sons of God falling in love with humans in Genesis 6 and producing demon
offspring.  She went on to describe Satan and his angels being cast out of
heaven in the book of Revelation.
I guess what intrigued me about all this was her serious discussion of fallen
angels and their interaction with humans not only in the Biblical past but
during the Roman period as evidenced not only by their Throne of Satan at
Pergamon but also by their mythic interaction between their gods, humans and
the giants. The one concept that she did not address is my correlation between
these fallen angels of Satan and so called extraterrestrials. It is my sincere
belief that they are one and the same. The sons of God in Genesis 6 are fallen
angels who have sought strange flesh (Jude 7) for millennium and are coming
back to deceive the whole world about the rapture of the saints.
To have a major biblical journal and a distinguished Professor from Yale
address such an important issue as fallen angels at this time is heartening. I
hope and pray that it does not fall on deaf ears. I will continue to do all
that I can to keep the discussion alive as I have tried to do through my
novels ("The Great Harpazo Deception" and "Invasion: Israel") and my article,
"War of the Worlds not in Vain".
