Palestinian Authority and Jordanian security sources have again confirmed that Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda is active in the Gaza Strip and planning to launch an assault against Israel from there.

According to those sources, an additional 10 terrorists affiliated with Al Qaeda entered Gaza over the past several weeks, joining those who were already based in the volatile coastal strip.

The Arabic daily newspaper al-Hayat quoted the Jordanians as saying Al Qaeda intends to attack "sensitive targets" in and around Gaza, such as Israeli border crossings and foreign observers based on the Gaza-Sinai border.

To this end, the newcomers are reportedly involved in the large-scale importation of materials needed to build up a deadly terrorist arsenal.

Senior Likud Knesset Member Yuval Steinitz warned on Israel Radio Wednesday that the news further highlights the fact that a full-blown terrorist military infrastructure is being built up in Gaza without serious interference.

Just two weeks ago, newly-installed Hamas Interior Minister Saed Siyam announced there would no longer be any punishment for those living in territories under his regime's control for attacking Israel's Jews.  That policy was certainly welcomed by Al Qaeda, and made the successful perpetration of an attack by bin Laden's group all but inevitable.
