"RE: "Apostasy alert!""
The
apostasy danger is not really about claims that Jesus didn't do miracles, or
that Judas was a good guy, or that Jesus had children with Mary Magdalene, etc.
etc. The reason for this is that these people are not Christians to start with,
and these crazy ideas are easy to spot. In fact, a lot of the opposition to
these new books (De Vinci Code, Gospel of Judas, etc.) come from established
religious groups only because they get cast in a bad light (Opus Die, etc.).
The modern Apostasy to beware of is comes from those very religious leaders
who actually hold to the "fundamentals" of the faith! The false teachers always
say they believe in the "Apostle's Creed" because otherwise they would not be
able to insert their leaven in undetected.
The things to watch out for come from "Christians" are as follows:
- Ecumenical
"Christians" who say there is salvation apart from Jesus Christ's
shed blood on the cross alone, and therefore proselytizing is evil;
- Tolerant
"Christians" who twist God's grace into an acceptance of sin, and
homosexuality in particular;
- Scholarly
"Christians" who say the actual scriptures have disappeared from
the earth when the original manuscripts dissolved, and therefore our translated
English Bible (KJV) is unreliable and cannot be fully trusted;
- Do-gooder
"Christians" who say we need to stop preaching the Bible and start
feeding the poor and promoting environmentalism and socialism instead;
- Emergent
"Christians" who promote the rites and rituals of New Age spirituality;
- Political
"Christians" who want to establish the kingdom of God on a sinful world
through political action, litigation, and legislation;
- Super-sensitive
"Christians" who don't want anyone to say anything from the Bible
(especially in public) that might cause offense to any of the above groups
because "they are our brothers in Christ" and we need to leave them alone;
- Unity
"Christians" who believe that the protestant reformation was all
just a big misunderstanding.
The
danger with these groups is 100 times worse because us sheep only look at the
sheep-clothes and ignore what Jesus told us about wolves. God help us.
