It was the Roman governor’s custom, at the Feast of Passover,
to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd. The crowd demanded Barabbas
be released unto them. Barabbas was “the people’s choice.”
Barabbas was well known for the evil that he did. (Matthew
27:16)
Jesus was well known for the good that He did. (Luke
7:16-17, Mark 7:37, Luke 19:48, John 12:17-19)
Barabbas was guilty of sedition. (Luke 23:19)
Jesus was falsely accused of sedition. (Luke 23:13-15)
Barabbas was guilty and set free. (Luke 23:25)
Jesus was innocent and bound. (John 18:12-13)
Barabbas was acquitted. (Luke 23:25)
Jesus was condemned to death. (John 19:16)
Barabbas' name means “son of the father,” but Jesus was
the Son of the Father. (Matthew 3:17 KJV)
Barabbas was a thief, a murderer, an insurrectionist.
(John 18:40 NASB, Luke 23:19)
Satan came to steal, kill, and destroy. (John 10:10)
Jesus came to redeem, give life, and to restore us to
fellowship with the Father. (Romans 3:24, I Peter 1:18,19, John 10:10b,
I John 4:9, II Corinthians 5:18, Colossians 1:20)
Pilate was a crowd pleaser. Every time we compromise
our principles and give in to peer pressure, we crucify the Lord Jesus
Christ anew. We need to ask ourselves the same question Pilate asked the
people that day.
"What should I do with Jesus, who is called the Messiah?"
And they all shouted, "Crucify him!"
What will your answer be? (Matthew 27:22)
"The Spirit and the bride say, ‘Come!’ And let
him who hears say, ‘Come!’ Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever
wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life." (Revelation
22:17)
Please forward this to everyone.
