Hello Doves,

Thinking back to 1978 when Pope John Paul II was elected, I realized there had been 3 Popes in the year 1978.  There was Pope Paul VI, Pope John Paul I and Pope John Paul II.

(Giovanni Battista Montini) elected Pope on June 21, 1963, and uses the name Pope Paul VI.  Pope Paul VI dies August 6, 1978.

(Albino Luciani) elected Pope on August 26, 1978, and uses the name Pope John Paul I.  Pope John Paul I dies on September 28, 1978, after only 33 days in office.

(Karol Wojtyla) elected Pope on October 16, 1978, and uses the name Pope John Paul II.  Pope John Paul II dies April 2, 2005.
