Court upholds law curbing Jewish labor on Sabbath
By Yuval Yoaz, Haaretz Correspondent
The High Court of Justice on Monday upheld a law restricting employment of Jews on the Sabbath, saying it does not violate the Basic Law: Freedom of Occupation."Setting Sabbath as a day of rest is not religious coercion," the court said.
The petition against the law legislating hours of work and rest was submitted by a furniture factory called Design 22. The factory argued for the repeal of the law, claiming it impinged on the freedom of labor and caused serious financial damage to the factory and its workers due to fierce competition in the sector.
