Rick Warren is author of the best seller "The Purpose-Driven Life," the largest-selling book of any kind in history.  He is also the founding pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif., one of America's largest and best-known churches.

I am in the process of editing Rick Warren's foreword to one of Dr. Bright's last books, "The Joy of Encountering Jesus," soon to be published.

Perhaps the best lesson Bill taught was the power of complete surrender to God. Years ago, I asked him, "Why do you think God has used and blessed your life so much?"

He told me the story he has told over and over around the world: "When I was a young man, I made a contract with God. I literally wrote it out and signed my name at the bottom. It said, `From this day forward, I am a slave of Jesus Christ.'"
