"Does The Pope's Coffin Always
Have A Skull & Crossbones On It?"
Does The
Pope's Coffin Always Have A Skull & Crossbones On It?Under
this article called "Papal Transitions," please scroll down to Page 5 to
the subtitle of "Is The Pope's Coffin Always Made Of Cypress?" to find
the section about the Pope's lead coffin which bears a skull & crossbones.
The article states the following:
"In
fact, three coffins are used. The innermost coffin is made of cypress
to signify the Pope's humanity. Before burial, the cypress coffin
is sealed in an 800 pound lead coffin which bears a skull &
crossbones. The outermost coffin is made of elm to sybolize the
great dignity of the pope. Both the lead and elm coffins bear bronze
plagques with significant dates of his life." (As we know the skull
& crossbones is a Masonic symbol.)
