Kalkilye Handover Next Week – Terror Attacks Continue

(IsraelNN.com) In a contradictory move, Israel is planning to turn over security control of Kalkilye to Palestinian Authority (PA) forces next week, despite the daily increase in terror attacks.

Officials in Jerusalem state the Kalkilye handover may occur next week if Israel confirms PA reports that illegal weapons have been confiscated in Jericho and Tul Karem, areas already turned over to the PA during recent weeks.

Israel’s willingness to turn over additional areas seems to contradict the daily realities seen during recent weeks -- an extremely sharp increase in rocket, mortar shell, shooting and bomb attacks in Gaza. IDF Southern Command officers report terror during recent weeks has increased over 300%.

In addition, there has been a significant increase in shooting, firebomb and other attacks in areas in Shomron and Judea as well. On Tuesday, Kassam rockets fired from Beit Hanoun in northern PA-controlled Gaza landed in Sderot. Nevertheless, Israel seems determined to move ahead towards releasing security control over autonomous areas to PA forces.
