Dear Donna,I am truly glad that you will exercise your right to vote. I believe there are times that we need to make a statement, even if its results are ineffectual. Or, are they? Back in '92, I allowed myself to be persuaded that a third party candidate could actually win a presidential election in modern-day America. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.
Being disappointed that George Senior didn't continue on toward Baghdad, I decided I couldn't give him my vote. But, being a Christian, neither could I support the platform of the Democratic Party and it's 'oratorically masterful' candidate. So, I too made a statement. And we all lived through eight years of the results.
Let's assume all the articles you referenced concerning George W. are the unvarnished truth. They all speak to his character. There are at least as many disparaging articles concerning his presumed opponent, perhaps equally true. Based on these commentaries you and many others will vote for neither of these candidates. But, mark my words, unless there is not an election, one of these men will be the President of the United States for the next four years. Allow me to make a few predictions based on:
George W.'s record in office -
- The war of terror will continue, with a higher probability of being limited to foreign soil
- The world will hate us more openly than usual, but will respect our military strength and be wary of the Bush Doctrine of 'pre-emptive strike'
- Conservative judges, who are more apt to be constitutionalists, might actually get appointed, thus limiting judicial activism.
- The cauldron in Israel will continue to simmer, but if it boils over it will not be because Bush reversed himself on the issue of 'right of return'.John Kerry's record -
- any predictions are impossible to make due to his reversals on most issues. The only evident constant seems to be that he is enamored with the UN and that he insists that his military leadership is unquestionable due to four months of honorable service in Vietnam.Of course, the rapture might take place before the election. :-) and than all bets are off.
God Bless
