Farewell of the Son
by Kimberly Freeman

It was up in Heaven
A long time ago.
God looked at His Son,
And said, "I love You, You know."
The Child said,
"Yes Father. I know it well.
You've been a great Dad.
Yes, You've been really swell!"
The Father looked at His Son's face,
And a tear fell from His eye.
"Daddy - what's the matter?
Daddy - please don't cry!"

"Son - You know I love You.
You know I always will.
But You have to go now
To a place that isn't a great thrill.
I know you won't like it,
But it's for the people on Earth.
They need You to go, Son.
To Me, they are of much worth.
You're the only One that can do this;
If there were another way, I'd try.
But You'll have to leave this place,
And We'll have to say 'good-bye' ".

The Son looked at His Father,
Tears spilling from His eyes.
They embraced each other like never before.
Throughout Heaven, one could hear their cries.
"Daddy, I love You!"
He yelled through His tears.
"I don't want to leave You!
I'm having all these fears!"

They sat down together,
Sitting side by side.
The Father in deep sorrow.
This was the first time He had so cried.
The Son finally broke the silence.
"Dad, I've been thinking it through.
I am willing to go to Earth,
I am willing to do it...
For You."

The Father looked at His Son with love,
And said, "You're a noble lad,
But I must warn You of what You will go through.
I must warn You that it will be bad;
People will be cruel and mean
Because of all that nasty sin.
When You are hungry, no one will care.
You might grow weary and thin.
And You know that Satan guy I told You about?
Well, he'll try to tempt You to sin.
He won't give up easily,
But that fight, You'll always win.
One day, some people will hurt You.
They'll mock and spit at Your face.
They will kill You because You are My Son,
But You will let them because of grace.
You will be put on a cross
And collect all of the world's ugly sin.
I won't be able to look at Your face
Because of all the evil You'll be in.

You will bear every transgression;
Every bad thought will be on Your head.
You will not die peacefully,
But with agony and pain instead.
When it's all over,
You'll come back to be with Me.
You will help Me rule over the Earth again,
And We will reign, eternally.
Now, Son, I've warned You of Your trip.
Are you still willing to go?
It will not be pleasant.
I'll understand if You say 'no' ".

The Son looked into His Daddy's eyes,
And said, "Father I understand what to do.
I know it's going to be painful,
But I'll still do it,...
For You."

A tear trickled down the Father's cheek;
Another crawled down the other side.
He didn't have the words to speak.
He couldn't talk, so He just cried.
Father and Son stood,
Holding each other tight.
The Son clung to His Father sadly,
But He knew He had done right.
The Father reluctantly said to His Son,
"the people need You more than I.
So, as much as I hate to say this,
It is time to say good-bye."

They hugged each other one more time,
And the Father pointed to a girl.
"This will be your Earthly mother-
Your passageway to the world."
He looked at His precious Son.
His only Child had to go.
Soon, though, it would be done,
And He would be back to rule in Heaven, so,
The Father blew a kiss, and said,
"My Son, until We meet again, good-bye."

With that, the Son vanished.
The Father let out a sigh.
But He remembered why His Son had gone.
He remembered why He had sent His Boy.
A tear went down His face.
But,
It was a tear of joy.
