"just skimming the surface"

God woke up with this thought on my mind the other night. It was a true statement for me and I believe most Christians. I guess we shoot for our comfort zone. I wrote a letter recently about my 5 weeks in Mexico. I did a lot of construction work for a church. God did bless me through that but really it is not satisfying to the soul when you feel there is something missing. I wrote in that letter of a Christian phenomena that I was skeptical of. My purpose in writing that was not to legitimize or prove a Christian event that puzzles most Christians but to ask the question, " is there a deeper calling or deeper relationship that God is calling us to"? We go about our business and perform our religious duties. God is in our thoughts sometimes. Yet it seems most of us are caught up in a pursuit of knowledge or activity that is not beneficial to our relationship to Jesus. So Jesus is sort of put on the back burner of our priorities or 2ndary to what we spend most of our time thinking about. Our relationship with him has become obligatory rather than someone we want to spend all our time with.
So there is a place deeper, I feel, many of us are being called to. Not just more prayer, fellowship or bible study. We can't just clutter our time with religious activity and think that will satisfy our souls craving or our Lord's craving for deeper fellowship We have just been skimming the surface.
God bless
frank.
