Letters flying back and forth......should we vote, should we not vote? Who
should we vote for? Do Evangelical Christians hold the election in their
hands, if we turn out in record numbers and vote for George Bush? Is it
God's Will that we be involved in this election year political process to
determine who will lead the USA from the White House? Is evil raising its
ugly head and reining because good Christians are not voting? What does the Bible say? How should we live in this present world?
Let's start at the beginning........of when we are born again and what
changes are made.....When we receive the Gospel, repent of our sins and confess Jesus as Lord, we
become a new creature:Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are
passed away; behold, all things are become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)How many things?
ALL things!
We spiritually change our residence too!:
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us
into the kingdom of his dear Son: (Colossians 1:13)How do we, as Christians, operate in this present world? Should we be
involved in the political process? No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that
he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. (2 Timothy 2:4)So, we are soldiers in the Lord's Army. Is voting a weapon to be used
against the enemy?(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to
the pulling down of strong holds;)Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against
the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the
obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience
is fulfilled. (2 Corinthians 10:4=6)So, as soldiers, what are our duties?
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to
every creature. (Mark 16:15)So, as a Christian and a good soldier, we are to preach the Gospel and live
our lives separate from this world system? But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a
peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath
called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: (1 Peter 2:9)So then, voting in the system of darkness is not our duty?
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places. (Ephsians 6:12)Well, what about our freedom if we don't vote?
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my
word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John
8:31,32)Maranatha,
David
